A to Z of Chiropractic: J is for Joint!

J is for Joint

A joint is the location at which two or more bones meet. They allow movement and provide mechanical support.
Chiropractor’s asses the Joints in the body to see if they are functioning correctly. Should your Chiropractor find a joint which is not working well then they will perform an adjustment.

This will restore the movement in the joint and reduce any irritation and inflammation that was present.

A to Z of Chiropractic: I is for Inflammation

I is for Inflammation

Inflammation is a localised reaction that can cause redness, warmth, swelling and pain. This is often the result of injury, infection and irritation.
Inflammation is often present in musculoskeletal complaints and is the main cause of pain. Inflammation occurs immediately after injury and can last several days.
A natural way to mange inflammation is the use of Ice.
Ice causes constriction of your blood vessels. This helps to reduce the amount of inflammation and therefore reduces pain.
Ice packs should always be wrapped in a towel to prevent damage to your skin. Place the ice pack on the injured area for 15-20 minutes. If the pain is still present 1-2 hours later, re apply. This should help to reduce the pain. Consult your Chiropractor or GP if the pain persists.
Do not use ice therapy if you suffer from diabetes, impaired sensation, impaired circulation, heart disease, Reynaud’s syndrome or rheumatoid arthritis.
